I Hold You in My Heart

It has been awhile since I posted my last card, at least awhile for me... so much going on.  These past two weeks there has been much sadness and also much joy.. the "yin and yang" of life never ceases to amaze me.

First, I, too, have been deeply saddened by the horrific events  in Newtown, Connecticut.  Only days before, my students endured the tragic death of another teen at the school where I teach.  It was hard to get my mojo going for much of anything for a time. I read on so many blogs how some people just felt the need to take a breath and be still for a bit. I had the same experience.  But life also presents us with gifts, sometimes in the midst of such darkness, and on a brighter note, I was able to get away for a few days last week to attend the college graduation of my son, Timothy.  How wonderful to be together with his father watching him walking across the stage with pride having worked so hard to accomplish this goal.  My son will join both his father and me as he embarks on a career in education.  We know he will be a wonderful teacher!

My card today is one I have worked on for the past week or so. It was truly my way of channeling my  prayers and hopes for healing for those who lost their loved ones so tragically last week. When Jak Heath blogged about a card drive for those in Connecticut (here), I immediately knew the image I would use and how I would interpret it.  For my card, I selected Hannah Lynn's "A Princess is Born" digi image.
The image is colored with copic markers (colors listed below).  Actually she is my second rendition as I colored her and then dropped an inkpad right on top of the image as I attempted to stamp a sentiment!  I had to color her over again but honestly, I found it so comforting to do so!  The design paper is from Pion Design.  The "angel wings" are from Kaisercraft. I painted them with Tim Holtz paint dabber in Pearl and then added Deco Art Glamour Dust.  The flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts and the Tulle Pleat Trim, that I tied into a bow is from Live and Love Crafts.  The antique lace and blue velvet ribbon are from The Ribbon Girl.
The sentiment is from Just Rite Clear Stamp Set- In Sympathy.  At first, I began looking through my stamp binders for a sentiment about children and then stumbled on this set. Once I read it, I knew it was perfect for what was in my heart...I stamped it with a new Ranger Archival Inkpad in Plum- these inkpad colors are breathtaking.
Have a good day and thank you, once again, for your kind comments.

"Two Heartbeats"....The Paper Shelter Blog Hop Celebrates Our 2nd Birthday!

Good Morning and welcome to The Paper Shelter Blog Hop. Our hop is a very exciting one for all of us as it is in celebration of our 2nd Birthday!!!! If you have landed here from Lorraine's  blog then you're heading in the right direction - if not then you'll want to head on back to The Paper Shelter Challenge Blog to start again, as you'll not want to miss out on this one!  Our Design Team has worked very hard and the team is showcasing the gorgeous images available from The Paper Shelter online store. Each blog on the hop is offering one lucky commenter a digi of their choice as well as the main prize, details of which are on The Paper Shelter Challenge Blogspot!

Our theme for this blog Hop is "Two of Anything".  For my card, I selected a digi image called "Light of My Life", and the two of anything on my card are... two heartbeats!   This image, like so many others, comes pre-printed as well as in jpeg and png format. I used the pre-printed image for my card - they are so perfect for when you want a quick or perfectly colored image right away!

The design paper is new- it is Lili of the Valley "Promises" paper pad and I just love it. It worked so well with the colors in the pre-printed image.  I added some Pebbles iridescent chalk around the image and a bit of Deco Art Glamour Dust to her hair and I was ready to embellish.  The die cut is from Spellbinder- Floral Ovals.  The flowers and metal corner are from Wild Orchid Crafts.  Don't know where I got the floral rose ribbon, and the pearls are from my stash.   I just love, love, love this sentiment.  Thanks Carla for introducing me to Create with TLC where I purchased this beautiful digi sentiment!  I was waiting for the right time to use it and when this I found this, I knew it would be perfect for a mommy or daddy to be! (It is available in my ETSY shop, where I have added a few cards, today!)

From here you will need to hop on over to Patti Sue's blog. Don't forget to leave your comment for a chance of winning your choice of one of the fabulous digis available in store.Hop! Hop! Hop! Good luck and hope you're enjoying it so far.

Christmas Light

Hi... Well, we are officially in the month of December, so let the holiday spirit begin!  This year, I am committing to making the holidays less frenetic and focusing on quality time spent with family.  It is a season of "light" both physical and spiritual. I hope you, too, can hold on to the moment amid all the "to do's" - With that in mind, I created a card using a La La Land Stamp called "Christmas Lantern Marci".
First, the inspiration for this card came from Sara Winter (aka "Daisy Dreams" blog here).  Her work is an inspiration to me and if you click on the link above, you will see this Marci in different colors and so beautifully embellished on her cards. I asked for permission to use her card for a copic class I am teaching on "reds" and so in doing so, I created my own version of her beautiful card.. thank you Sara!
Marci is colored with copics on Make it Colour Cardstock. I had to paper piece her hat as I tried once again to add glitter over the Sharpie Paint Pen polka dots and it just causes the paint pen to run and fade.  So, I colored another hat and paper pieced it over this one.  I used the softer E30's and 40's colors for her dress and R59, 39, 29, 24, 22 and 20 for her coat, shoes and hat.
The design paper is from Teresa Collins' Christmas Cottage. The ribbon, lace and pearls are from my stash. The holly lace flourish die is from Cheery Lynn Designs.  Flowers and heart pearls from Wild Orchid Crafts. The flourish and parts of the image were coated with Snow-tex, Martha Stewart Snow glitter and Stickles Diamond glitter. The image was outlined in dark blue Pebbles iridescent chalks.
Have a great day and thanks for your kind comments!  I will be entering this card in the following challenges:
